Introduction

Agar aapka MacBook heat zyada bana raha hai, ya thermal paste dry ho gaya hai, toh heat sink replacement + fresh thermal paste zaroori hai. Is guide se aap heat sink remove karoge, purani thermal paste saaf karoge, aur nayi lagayoge.

What You Need

  • Phillips #00 screwdriver

  • T6 Torx screwdriver

  • Spudger (plastic pry tool)

  • Isopropyl alcohol + lint-free cloth (old paste saaf karne ke liye)

  • New thermal paste

  • Anti-static surface / mat

Step 1 — Remove Lower Case Screws

  • MacBook ko ulta rakho.

  • Nichle cover ko fikar se pakadne wale 10 screws nikaalo:
      • 3 screws — 14.4 mm Phillips #00
      • 3 screws — 3.5 mm Phillips #00
      • 4 screws — 3.5 mm shouldered Phillips #00

  • Jab wapas screws lagao, ensure unka direction case ke thodi curvature ke perpendicular ho (seedha down nahi).

Step 2 — Remove Lower Case

  • Vent ke paas apni ungli se lower case ko body se pry karo.

  • Mounting clips free hone ke baad lower case uthaake nikaalo.

Step 3 — Disconnect Battery Connector

  • Spudger ki edge use karke battery connector ko logic board se upar pry karo.

  • Dono chhote sides se alternatingly “walk” karna safe method hai, taki kone damage na ho.

Step 4 — Bend Battery Cable Away

  • Battery cable ko thoda sa bend karo board se door — taki jab aap heat sink remove karein, accidental reconnection na ho.

Step 5 — Disconnect Fan Connector

  • Spudger ka flat end use karke fan connector ko logic board se upar pry karo gently.

  • Twist spudger axially under wires agar zarurat ho, but always pull connector straight up.

  • Fan socket bohot delicate hai — force na lagao.

Step 6 — Unscrew Fan from Logic Board

  • Remove three screws securing fan:
      • 1 × 7.2 mm T6 Torx screw
      • 2 × 5.3 mm T6 Torx screws

Step 7 — Remove Fan

  • Fan ko dhyaan se uski recess se lift karo.

  • Watch out: cable ya surrounding parts se fan snag na ho.

Step 8 — Disconnect Right Speaker / Subwoofer Cable

  • Use spudger tip to pull the right speaker / subwoofer cable out from under the molded retaining finger in the upper case.

  • Then pull that cable up to free it from its socket on the logic board.

Step 9 — Disconnect Camera Cable

  • Gently slide the camera cable out of its socket on the logic board.

  • Agar cable thoda fragile feel ho, use a spudger to walk the connector out from metal tabs on either side.

Step 10 — Disconnect Multiple Cables

  • Disconnect these four cables using flat end of spudger:
      • AirPort / Bluetooth cable
      • Optical drive cable
      • Hard drive cable
      • Trackpad cable

Step 11 — Keyboard Ribbon Cable

  • Flip the small retaining flap on the keyboard ribbon cable’s ZIF socket (use fingernail or spudger).

  • Pull the keyboard ribbon cable out of its socket gently.

  • Agar cable tough se insert ho rahi ho, temporarily tape use karke guide karo.

Step 12 — Keyboard Backlight Cable

  • If there is a small black tape over the keyboard backlight cable socket, peel it off carefully.

  • Flip up the retaining flap on its ZIF socket and pull out the backlight cable.

Step 13 — Sleep Sensor / Battery Indicator Connector

  • Use the flat end of spudger to pry the sleep sensor / battery indicator connector up from its socket on the logic board.

Step 14 — Display Data Cable

  • Grab the plastic pull tab attached to the display data cable lock and rotate it toward the DC-In side.

  • Then pull display data cable straight out of its socket on the logic board.

  • Don’t lift upward — always pull parallel to logic board face.

Step 15 — Remove Screws Securing Heat Sink

  • Remove these nine T6 Torx screws holding the heat sink:
      • 5 screws — 3.6 mm
      • 2 screws — 4.3 mm
      • 2 screws — 7.2 mm

  • (Note: in some models, screw lengths vary: 5 × 3.0 mm, 2 × 3.6 mm, 2 × 6.7 mm)

Step 16 — Remove Retainer Screws for Display Bracket

  • Also remove these two screws:
      • 1 × 8.6 mm Phillips
      • 1 × 5.5 mm Phillips

  • Then remove the display data cable retainer from the top case.

Step 17 — Peel Microphone Adhesive

  • Use spudger tip to gently peel the microphone off its adhesive from the upper case.

Step 18 — Remove Logic Board

  • Lift the logic board from the side nearest the optical drive, being careful with many connectors along edges.

  • Without flexing the board, maneuver it out of the upper case, and watch for the flexible DC-In board connector — don’t let it snag.

Step 19 — Remove Heat Sink

  • Remove three 8.4 mm Phillips #1 screws securing the heat sink to the logic board.

  • Keep the springs under each screw safe — they matter.

  • Lift the heat sink carefully off the processor.

  • Agar stuck ho, use plastic spudger gently under edge to pry it off — don’t damage surface mount parts near processor.

  • Clean off old thermal paste completely, and apply a fresh thin layer before reinstalling the heat sink.

Reassembly

  • All steps ko reverse order me follow karo:
      • Reposition logic board
      • Reinstall display retainer, bracket screws
      • Reattach cables: display, sensors, backlight, keyboard, trackpad, hard drive, optical, AirPort/Bluetooth
      • Reconnect camera, speaker/subwoofer cables
      • Reinstall fan, connect it
      • Reconnect battery
      • Lower case lagao and screws tighten karo

  • Finally power up and test behavior (temps, fan rpm, display etc.)

Tips & Precautions

  • Screw sizes aur positions note karo — bohot important hai.

  • Work on anti-static surface ya use ESD strap.

  • Connectors always pull straight (parallel) — never angle up.

  • Don’t force stuck components — use gentle prying.

  • Thermal paste layer thin honi chahiye — zyada mat lagana.

  • Make sure springs under those heat sink screws are correctly placed.

  • After reassembly, monitor CPU temperature — ensure cooling works well.
