Intro:
Ek second hard drive add karne se aapko zyada storage milti hai, performance improve hoti hai aur software installation easier hota hai. Is guide mein hum optical bay mein extra drive lagayenge.

🧰 What You Need

  • Phillips #00 screwdriver

  • Spudger / plastic pry tool

  • Hard drive enclosure / caddy (jo optical bay mein fit ho)

  • Second HDD or SSD

🛠️ Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Remove Lower Case

  • MacBook ko ulta rakho.

  • Neeche ke 10 screws remove karo:
    • 3 screws of 14.4 mm (Phillips)
    • 3 screws of 3.5 mm
    • 4 screws of 3.5 mm with shoulders

  • Jab wapas lagana ho, ensure karo screws case ki curve ke perpendicular hoon.

Step 2: Lift Off Lower Case

  • Vent ke paas se fingers se lower case pry karo.

  • Slide kar ke case remove karo.

Step 3: Disconnect Battery

  • Spudger ka edge use karke battery connector gently logic board se lift karo.

  • Dono short sides ko thoda-thoda “walk” karna safe rahega.

  • Corner connectors delicate hain — careful raho.

Step 4: Bend Battery Cable

  • Thoda sa battery cable ko side mein bend karo taki woh socket ya components ko interfere na kare.

Step 5: Disconnect AirPort / Bluetooth Ribbon Cable

  • Use flat end of spudger to lift AirPort / Bluetooth ribbon cable from its socket on logic board.

Step 6: Disconnect Camera Cable

  • Pull camera cable out parallel to board (sideways).

  • Upar se na kheecho, warna socket ya cable damage ho sakta hai.

Step 7: Peel Camera Cable from Bracket

  • Peel the camera cable off its adhesive under the subwoofer / bracket.

  • De-route cable from under retaining finger in bracket.

Step 8: Disconnect First Antenna Connector

  • Use spudger tip to lift the antenna connector nearest to logic board from the AirPort/Bluetooth board.

  • Also route its cable out of the slot in bracket.

Step 9: Disconnect Remaining Antenna Connectors

  • Similarly lift and de-route the other three antenna connectors.

Step 10: Remove Board Mounting Screws

  • Remove these five screws:
    • 2 screws, 10.3 mm
    • 2 screws, 3.1 mm
    • 1 screw, 5 mm

Step 11: Remove AirPort/Bluetooth + Subwoofer Assembly

  • Pull the assembly upward near the optical drive until it clears.

  • Move it aside carefully.

Step 12: Detach AirPort/Bluetooth Board from Bracket

  • Peel EMI tape covering the cable connector.

  • Remove 3 screws (3 mm) holding board to the bracket.

  • Lift board off bracket gently (watch for thermal pad).

Step 13: Disconnect Right Speaker / Subwoofer Cable

  • Pull that cable out from under retaining finger near optical drive.

  • Then lift it off logic board to disconnect it.

Step 14: Disconnect Hard Drive Cable

  • Use flat end spudger to lift the hard drive cable connector from logic board.

  • Bend cable away from optical drive.

Step 15: Disconnect Optical Drive Connector

  • Pry the optical drive connector up from its logic board socket.

Step 16: Remove Optical Drive Screws

  • Remove the three 2.7 mm Phillips screws securing optical drive to upper case.

Step 17: Remove Optical Drive

  • From edge closest to display, pull optical drive upward and remove it from upper case.

Step 18: Optical Drive Enclosure Preparation

  • Remove plastic spacer from the hard drive caddy enclosure by pressing clips and lifting it out.

Step 19: Install Hard Drive into Enclosure

  • Ensure drive connectors face downwards.

  • Gently insert drive into enclosure.

  • Press it into the connector as you hold enclosure in place.

Step 20: Secure Drive in Enclosure

  • Reinsert the plastic spacer while holding drive firmly.

  • Use two Phillips #1 screws to secure drive to enclosure.

Step 21: Transfer Bracket

  • Attach optical drive’s mounting bracket to new caddy using two Phillips screws.

  • Reconnect any cables removed from original optical drive onto caddy.

Step 22: Reassemble

  • Fit the caddy (with drive) in place of the optical drive.

  • Reconnect all cables: optical drive, hard drive cable, speaker cable, AirPort/Bluetooth, camera, battery.

  • Place lower case back and tighten all 10 screws (carefully matching screw types).
