💡 Introduction

Replacing the upper case matlab pura top shell jisme keyboard, trackpad, etc. hote hain.
Iske liye aapko MacBook ka lagbhag saara internal component nikalna padega. Aur haan — apna purana trackpad new upper case mein transfer karna bhi zaroori hai.


🧰 What You’ll Need

  • Phillips #00 screwdriver

  • Torx T6 screwdriver

  • T8 Torx screwdriver

  • Spudger (thin plastic pry tool)

  • Replacement upper case shell

  • Patience, careful hands


🔩 Step 1: Remove the Lower Case

  • MacBook ko ulta karo (bottom side up).

  • 10 screws nikaalo:
      • 3 × 14.4 mm Phillips #00
      • 3 × 3.5 mm Phillips #00
      • 4 × 3.5 mm shouldered Phillips #00

  • Jab screws wapas lagao, thoda angle mein daalo — kyunki case thodi curved hai (straight daalne se threads damage ho sakte hain).


Step 2: Take Off the Lower Case

  • Vent ke paas lower case ko fingers se thoda pry karo.

  • Fir lower case ko pura utha kar side rakh lo.


Step 3: Disconnect the Battery Connector

  • Spudger ki edge se battery connector ko logic board se gently upar pry karo.

  • Better hai thoda-thoda dono short sides se “walk” karo — connectors ke corners fragile hote hain.


Step 4: Bend the Battery Cable

  • Battery cable ko thoda side mein bend karo, jisse kaam karte waqt woh accidentally connect na ho jaye.


Step 5: Disconnect Fan

  • Spudger se fan connector ko gently upar uthao.

  • Twist motion use kar sakte ho to release it.

  • Fan socket fragile hai — break mat karna.


Step 6: Remove Fan Screws

  • Remove these screws holding the fan:
      • 1 × 7.2 mm T6 Torx screw
      • 2 × 5.3 mm T6 Torx screws

  • Fir fan ko nikaalo, cable ka dhyan rakhte hue.


Step 7: Disconnect Right Speaker / Subwoofer Cable

  • Spudger tip se cable ko retaining finger ke neeche se nikaalo.

  • Fir upar ki taraf lift karo tak connector logic board se alag ho jaaye.


Step 8: Disconnect Camera Cable

  • Camera cable ko slide out karo from its socket (parallel to board).

  • Agar cable fragile feel ho, spudger se “walk” karo out of its metal tabs.


Step 9: Disconnect Four More Cables

  • Use spudger flat end to pry these connectors from logic board:
      • AirPort / Bluetooth cable
      • Optical drive cable
      • Hard drive cable
      • Trackpad cable


Step 10: Disconnect Keyboard Ribbon Cable

  • Flip up the retaining flap on keyboard ribbon ZIF socket.

  • Pull keyboard ribbon cable out gently (don’t pull socket).

  • Agar difficult ho, ek small tape piece attach karke guide karo.


Step 11: Remove Tape from Keyboard Backlight Socket (if any)

  • Agar black tape ho jo backlight cable socket cover kar rahi hai, usse carefully remove karo.


Step 12: Disconnect Keyboard Backlight Ribbon Cable

  • Flip up retaining flap on backlight cable ZIF socket.

  • Gently pull cable out.


Step 13: Disconnect Sleep Sensor / Battery Indicator Cable

  • Use spudger flat end to pry that connector up from logic board.


Step 14: Disconnect Display Data Cable

  • Rotate the pull tab toward DC-In side.

  • Pull display data cable straight out, parallel to logic board (don’t lift up).

  • Socket is very fragile.


Step 15: Remove Logic Board Screws

  • Remove these screws holding logic board:
      • 5 × 3.6 mm T6 Torx
      • 2 × 4.3 mm T6 Torx
      • 2 × 7.2 mm T6 Torx

  • Kuch models mein screws thode chhote ho sakte hain (e.g. 3.0 mm, 3.6 mm, 6.7 mm).


Step 16: Remove Display Bracket Screws

  • Remove 2 screws:
      • 1 × 8.6 mm Phillips
      • 1 × 5.5 mm Phillips

  • Fir display data cable retainer ko upper case se remove karo.


Step 17: Peel Off Microphone

  • Spudger tip se microphone ko gently adhesive se peel karo, remove upper case se.


Step 18: Remove Logic Board

  • Mind karte hue connectors ke edges — lift logic board from optical drive side.

  • Without flexing board, pull it out of upper case, ensuring DC-In flexible cable doesn’t get snagged.


Step 19: Remove Two Tri-point Screws

  • On upper case, remove:
      • 1 × 5.6 mm tri-point screw
      • 1 × 13 mm tri-point screw


Step 20: Peel Off Battery Warning Label

  • Carefully peel the warning label stuck between battery & optical drive.

  • Don’t remove the label from battery itself.


Step 21: Remove Battery from Upper Case

  • Use its pull tab to lift battery out.


Step 22: Remove Hard Drive Bracket Screws

  • Remove two Phillips screws securing hard drive bracket to upper case (they’ll stay captive to bracket).

  • Remove the bracket (may be tightly seated).


Step 23: Remove Hard Drive

  • Use pull tab to lift hard drive.

  • Pull hard drive cable away from drive.

  • Remove drive from upper case.


Step 24: Remove Four Screws from Upper Case

  • Two 3 mm Phillips

  • Two 9.7 mm Phillips


Step 25: Peel Up IR Sensor / Sleep LED Ribbon Cable

  • Gently peel up this thin ribbon cable from its adhesive on upper case.


Step 26: Remove Front Hard Drive Bracket

  • Pull front hard drive bracket (with IR sensor) away from upper case front edge.

  • Also remove the hard drive cable with it.


Step 27: Peel Camera Cable & Adjust AirPort Cable

  • Move AirPort/Bluetooth ribbon cable aside.

  • Peel camera cable off adhesive from subwoofer / AirPort bracket.

  • De-route camera cable under retaining fingers in bracket.


Step 28: Disconnect Four Antenna Connectors

  • On AirPort/Bluetooth board, use spudger tip to pry up each of the four antenna connectors from sockets.

  • De-route each cable from their channels in the bracket.


Step 29: Remove Optical Drive Screws

  • Remove these screws:
      • Two 10.3 mm Phillips
      • Two 3.1 mm Phillips
      • One 5 mm Phillips


Step 30: Remove AirPort / Bluetooth & Subwoofer Assembly

  • Pull that assembly upward until they clear each other.

  • Remove AirPort/Bluetooth board.


Step 31: Remove Optical Drive from Upper Case

  • Remove three 2.7 mm screws securing optical drive.

  • Lift the optical drive from the display edge, remove from upper case.


Step 32: Peel Right Speaker Cable

  • Peel the right speaker cable from upper case.


Step 33: Remove Right Speaker / Subwoofer

  • Use plastic opening tool to pry right speaker from adhesive.

  • Start prying from edge near display (agar opposite side se start karoge, antennas damage ho sakte hain).

  • Continue prying until speaker frees from upper case.

  • Pull it out from under optical drive opening.


Step 34: Remove Display-side Screws

  • Remove two of the three 6 mm T8 Torx screws on right side of display.
      (Leave one screw to help future steps.)


Step 35: Remove Foam Tape Covering Hinge Screws

  • Remove small foam tape covering left display hinge screws.


Step 36: Remove Two More Display Screws

  • On left side, remove two of three 6 mm T8 Torx screws.
      (Again leave one to support display temporarily.)


Step 37: Separate Display / Upper Case

  • Open MacBook (display to ~90°).

  • Hold display & upper case together; then remove last T8 Torx screw.

  • Carefully rotate upper case slightly away so display bracket clears.

  • Lift display up off upper case (watch any cables or brackets).

  • Now upper case will come free.


Step 38: Remove Four 1.2 mm Screws from Upper Case

  • Remove four tiny 1.2 mm Phillips screws.


Step 39: Dislodge Trackpad

  • Gently push the trackpad edge closest to keyboard away from brackets in upper case.

  • De-route trackpad cable through its slot in upper case.


Step 40: Remove Trackpad

  • Pull the trackpad away from outer edge of upper case.

  • Take it out and set aside.


Step 41: Begin Working with New Upper Case

  • Use a T6 Torx to loosely install the 1.1 mm set screw (comes with new upper case) into its hole near trackpad opening.

  • Just one turn for now — you’ll adjust later.


Step 42: Transfer Trackpad to New Case

  • Thread your old trackpad cable through the slot in new upper case.

  • Hold cable in place and insert trackpad so its retaining tabs fit under upper case lip.

  • Pull trackpad cable while seating the trackpad flush.


Step 43: Insert Outer Screws on Trackpad

  • Insert a 1.2 mm Phillips screw into each of two outer trackpad holes.

  • Tighten, then back them out ~¼ turn to help alignment.


Step 44: Adjust Trackpad Click

  • While trying clicks on trackpad, gently tighten the set screw until click feel restores to factory style.

  • Too loose → too much play before click; too tight → clicks too easy and weak.


Step 45: Re-align & Tighten Trackpad

  • Flip upper case so keyboard side faces up.

  • Center the trackpad in its hole.

  • Tighten outer screws along trackpad’s inner edge.

  • If alignment is good, install remaining screws.

  • Check set screw again — make sure click feel is correct.


🔁 Reassembly

Ab sab steps reverse order mein karo:

  • Reinstall speakers, optical drive, antennas, cables, logic board

  • Reconnect battery

  • Attach display back to upper case

  • Reattach all screws

  • Replace lower case & screws

  • Test functionalities (keyboard, trackpad, display, ports, speakers)


💡 Tips & Notes

  • Keep track of which screw kahan thi — bahut chhote aur similar sizes hain.

  • Cable connectors ko plastic head se hi handle karo, wires se nahi.

  • Trackpad set screw adjustment bahut sensitive hai — adjustment patience se karo.

  • Cable routing important hai — clipped ya pinched cables trouble create kar sakti hain.

  • After reassembly, power on, test keyboard, trackpad, speakers, display, ports etc.
