Introduction

MacBook me second hard drive add karne se aapko zyada storage milti hai, speed better ho sakti hai, aur software install karne me flexibility badh jaati hai. Yeh guide batata hai kaise aap optical drive bay me special enclosure laga ke dusra hard drive install kar sakte hain.

What You’ll Need

  • Screwdriver (Phillips #00)

  • Spudger (plastic pry tool)

  • Optical-bay hard drive enclosure (special caddy)

  • Two drives (primary + new one)

  • Anti-static surface / mat

Step 1 — Remove Lower Case Screws

  • MacBook ko ulta rakho.

  • Niche ki case ko hold karne wale 10 screws hataao:

    • 3 × 14.4 mm Phillips #00

    • 3 × 3.5 mm Phillips #00

    • 4 × 3.5 mm shouldered Phillips #00

  • Jab wapas screws lagao, ensure wo case ke curvature (thalna) ke perpendicular ho, seedha nahi.

Step 2 — Remove Lower Case

  • Vent side ke paas apni ungli lagao aur lower case ko gently pry karo.

  • Clips release hone ke baad poora lower case lift karke hatao.

Step 3 — Disconnect Battery

  • Spudger ke edge se battery connector ko logic board se upar pry karo.

  • Connector ke dono chhote sides se alternatingly “walk” karo (thoda upar-uppar karke) taki corner damage na ho.

Step 4 — Bend Battery Cable Away

  • Battery cable ko thoda sa bend karo socket se door — isse woh accidently connect na ho kaam ke beech mein.

Step 5 — Disconnect AirPort/Bluetooth Cable

  • Spudger ka flat end use karke AirPort/Bluetooth ribbon cable connector ko logic board se upar pry karo.

Step 6 — Disconnect Camera Cable

  • Camera cable ko carefully logic board se pull karo.

  • Cable ko face of board (board surface) ke parallel kheenchna, upar mat kheenchna — damage ho sakta hai.

Step 7 — Free Up Cables

  • AirPort/Bluetooth ribbon cable ko side me shift karo.

  • Camera cable ko adhesive se peel karo (jahan woh subwoofer ya bracket se chipka hai).

  • Cable ko de-route karte hue AirPort/Bluetooth bracket ke retaining fingers ke neeche se nikaalo.

Step 8 — Disconnect Antenna Connector (Nearest Logic Board)

  • Spudger ka tip use kar ke woh antenna connector jo logic board ke sabse kareeb hai, usko AirPort/Bluetooth board se upar pry karo.

  • Cable ko bracket me mold ki hui finger ke neeche se carefully route karo (de-route).

Step 9 — Remove Display Bracket Screws

  • Phillips #00 screwdriver se ye 5 screws hatao:

    • 2 screws of 10.3 mm

    • 2 screws of 3.1 mm

    • 1 screw of 5 mm

Step 10 — Lift AirPort/Bluetooth + Subwoofer

  • AirPort/Bluetooth assembly aur subwoofer ko optical drive ke side se upar lift karo taki woh each other se clear ho jaaye.

  • Phir unhe optical drive ke upar se side me le aao.

Step 11 — Disconnect Subwoofer / Right Speaker Cable

  • Subwoofer / right speaker cable ko bracket ke retaining finger ke neeche se nikaalo.

  • Phir cable ko upar kheenchkar logic board se disconnect karo.

Step 12 — Disconnect Hard Drive Cable

  • Spudger ke flat end se hard drive cable connector ko logic board se upar pry karo.

  • Cable ko optical drive side se thoda bend karke rakho taaki obstruction na ho.

Step 13 — Disconnect Optical Drive Cable

  • Spudger se optical drive cable connector ko logic board se upar pry karo.

  • Cable itself khichna nahi — sirf connector ko hold karo.

Step 14 — Remove Optical Drive to Upper Case Screws

  • 3 screws (2.7 mm Phillips) ko hatao jo optical drive ko upper case se fix karte hain.

Step 15 — Remove Optical Drive

  • Drive ko display side se edge se thoda lift karo aur upper case se nikaalo.

Step 16 — Transfer Bracket to Enclosure

  • Optical drive ke cable ko gently nikaalo.

  • Do black Phillips #0 screws ko unscrew karo, mounting bracket ko nayi enclosure pe transfer karo.

Step 17 — Insert Drive into Enclosure

  • Plastic spacer ko enclosure se nikaalo by pressing one of its clips.

  • Ensure hard drive connectors face downward before placing into the enclosure.

  • Gently drive ko enclosure me push karo — connectors engage ho jaayen.

Step 18 — Reinsert Spacer

  • Spacer ko dubara insert karo jab drive snug ho enclosure ke bottom ke contact me ho.

Step 19 — Secure Drive in Enclosure

  • Use 2 Phillips #1 screws to secure hard drive in its enclosure.

Step 20 — Attach Optical Drive Bracket

  • Enclosure pe mounting bracket ko attach karo 2 Phillips #0 screws se.

  • Jo cables pehle the optical drive se, unhe nayi enclosure pe connect karo.

Step 21 — Use Old Optical Drive Externally (Optional)

  • Agar aap purana optical drive use karna chahte ho externally, toh ek SATA-to-USB cable use kar sakte ho.

  • Cable’s SATA side drive se connect karo, USB side laptop me lagao — ab optical drive external accessory ban jaayega.

Step 22 — Reassemble Everything

  • Har component ko reverse order me wapas install karo:

    • Optical bay enclosure with drive

    • Optical drive bracket and screws

    • Cables: hard drive cable, optical cable

    • Reconnect subwoofer, AirPort/Bluetooth, camera cables

    • Reconnect battery

    • Lower case lagao aur screws fit karo

Tips & Precautions

  • Screws ki size aur jagah note rakhna bhoolna mat.

  • Static protection (anti-static mat) use karo.

  • Connectors ko parallel direction se pull karo, upar se nahi.

  • Cable routing aur bracket slots ka dhyan rakho — cable pinch na ho.

  • Dual-drive setup me performance aur compatibility check karo — kuch SATA channels slower ho sakte hain.
